An important resource available to the Lignoworks Thermal Processing theme is The University of Western Ontario’s Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR), located a few kilometres north of the University . Inaugurated in 2009, it contains within its 20,000 square feet of office, laboratory and pilot plant space all the facilities required to test promising ideas for biomass conversion using commercially relevant equipment.

The centre provides a home base for the research of three of Lignoworks scientists - Profs. Cedric Briens, Charles Xu and Franco Berruti – and their post-doctoral fellows and graduate students. More information about ICFAR is available at its web site.
